The London 2012 Olympic Flame was lit today in Ancient Olympia, Greece ahead of the start of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on 18 May.

Today the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is holding a full dress rehearsal to test the operations around the Olympic Torch Relay – presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. The rehearsal is taking place on the Leicester to Peterborough stretch of the Relay route and is the culmination of the Olympic Torch Relay test schedule.

Local Authorities have today revealed the streets the Olympic Flame will travel down in Leicester & Leicestershire and the names of the inspirational Torchbearers who will run in our community have also been announced.

Leicester will have the great honour of being the only place in the East Midlands and one of only 34 nationally to host a Flame Celebration as part of the Paralympic Torch Relay, it has been announced today (Feb 29).

Today the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) have confirmed that a full dress rehearsal to test the operations around the Olympic Torch Relay will take place on the Leicester to Peterborough stretch of the Relay route on Friday 20 April 2012.

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) today revealed the 1,000 cities, towns and villages on the route of the Olympic Torch Relay. Between 18 May and 27 July, the Olympic Flame will come to within just 10 miles of 95% of the population of the UK.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today confirms that all valid Torchbearer nominations received by LOCOG between 18 May and 29 June 2011 through the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Moment to Shine campaign to find 2,012 of the most inspiring people to carry the Olympic Flame will go forward to the relevant selection panel in October 2011.

The Lloyds TSB London 2012 Olympic Torch Tour is coming to Leicester on Monday 11 July 2011, bringing the excitement of the Olympic Torch Relay to the local community.

A 16-year-old Loughborough College student had the honour of launching the London 2012 Olympic Torch with Lord Sebastian Coe at St Pancras International Station this morning.
