Inspire LeicesterShire organised a visit by London Organising Committee for Olympic & Paralympic Games Chairman, Lord Sebastian Coe KBE on Friday 12th October. The event was hosted by Loughborough College and attended by Games Makers, Torch Bearers and schools.

The London 2012 Legacy Plans have now been made public. Published by sports minister, Hugh Robertson, the plans also include the £300m transformation of the Olympic Park into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park; an annual £125m investment in elite sport ion the fun run up to the 2016 Games; and support for the Join In programme to build on the spirit of volunteering.

In this extraordinary year of sport, The Community Games programme has provided a great opportunity for communities and families to come together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Over 1,000 Community Games have taken place across the country since April 2012.

Lots to see at Leicester's Big Screen this weekend

Popele are invited to take part in a number of activities at the Big Screen, in Humberstone Gate, this weekend and next Monday (Sept 10). There will be live coverage of the Paralympics on the big screen between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 8 September. In addition, there will be a seating area set out for spectators, flags provided to celebrate the games and street artists and live music.

Loughborough Paralympic film to be broadcast on Channel 4

An independent film capturing the life story of one of our medal hopes for the London 2012 Paralympic Games is to be shown on Channel 4 on Saturday 18th and Tuesday 28th August. BEN – a film by Dr John Edwards, a Senior Lecturer at Loughborough University, follows the story of sprinter Ben Rushgrove who won a silver medal in the T36 100 metres at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, just three weeks after breaking his foot.

As part of Leicester Libraries Summer Scheme 2012, children and young people are invited to join in the 'Playday Library Games', to be held on Playday - the national day for play in the UK - on Wednesday August 1.
