Health and fitness in the spotlight at leisure centre

A LEISURE centre is hosting an event encouraging people of all ages to get fit, healthy and active.

Braunstone Leisure Centre is staging the family health day on Saturday, October 20, from 10am to 2pm, which will give information on how taking steps to a healthier lifestyle.

The free event is being run by Leicester City Council leisure centre staff in partnership with the NHS.

There will be information on keeping fit and healthy including taster classes on activities including spin, zumba, aqua and cardio-kick. There will also be advice on stopping smoking, healthy eating, heart checks, alternative therapies and the B-Active women's project.

Leicester assistant city mayor responsible for heritage, leisure and sport, Cllr Piara Singh Clair, said: "One of our key priorities is to encourage more residents to lead healthier lifestyles.

"I hope members of the community turn out in force to get all sorts of information and advice on making healthier lifestyle choices, as well as trying out the diverse range of family fun leisure activities on offer throughout the day."
