Reception for ladies' hockey club

A local sports team whose members include four Olympic medal winners will be honoured at a civic reception by Leicester's Lord Mayor.

Leicester Ladies' Hockey Club - four members of which brought home bronze medals for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games - will be guests of honour at the event, which takes place in the Town Hall's tea room, on Friday, August 31, at 5pm.

The team has recently celebrated wins at both indoor and national championships, and four of its members - Crista Cullen, Hannah Macleod, Anne Panter and Chloe Rogers - helped Team GB win its first women's hockey medal in 20 years.

Leicester Ladies' Hockey Club - nicknamed The Pukkas - has existed for 118 years, and in addition to its squad of players, relies on a dedicated team of volunteers and supporters.

Lord Mayor Cllr Abdul Osman will host the event and present the team with a commemorative vase.

He said: "I am extremely proud that the Leicester Ladies' Hockey Club has enjoyed such a fantastic year and has represented the city across the nation and Europe. We could not ask for a better image for the city."
