Six medal haul for Loughborough Paralympians

Loughborough's Paralympians have claimed six medals at the London 2012 Games. Following on from the first weekend when four medals were won - Dan Greaves and Aaron McKibbon picked up silver and bronze medals to increase the tally to six.

Races to suit all ages are planned for Leicester’s marathon day

In the aftermath of London 2012, Leicester is preparing for a city wide sporting event of its own. The 6th annual Leicester Marathon, organised by LOROS, will be starting from 9.00am from Victoria Park on Sunday 14th of October. As well as the full 26.2 mile Marathon, a newly introduced 5k Maza Fun Run will also be taking place from Abbey Park at 1pm. The wide range of running activities are designed to encourage runners of all ages and abilities to get involved.

In this extraordinary year of sport, The Community Games programme has provided a great opportunity for communities and families to come together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Over 1,000 Community Games have taken place across the country since April 2012.

Get sports skills at park

Youngsters are getting the chance to learn sporting skills at a series of events at Leicester's Evington Park. The Tuesday evening sessions which run throughout September are introducing children aged eight to 14 to the skills needed to for athletics and a range of track and field events seen in the London 2012 Olympics.

Lots to see at Leicester's Big Screen this weekend

Popele are invited to take part in a number of activities at the Big Screen, in Humberstone Gate, this weekend and next Monday (Sept 10). There will be live coverage of the Paralympics on the big screen between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 8 September. In addition, there will be a seating area set out for spectators, flags provided to celebrate the games and street artists and live music.

LEICESTER is set to welcome gymnastics teams from across the world next weekend, when the New College Gymnastics Centre hosts the Down Syndrome World Gymnastics Championships.

Teams from Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Portugal, South Africa, Norway, Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil and Eire will be taking part in the event, which takes place on Sunday 16th September from 9.30am to 3pm.

For the second week running, Braunstone parkrun has celebrated a record-breaking milestone at the weekend (1 September). Just one week after recording its largest ever attendance in its 95 week history, the weekly 5k race at Braunstone Park saw its course record smashed.

Cut-price fun at sports centres this Sunday

Sports centres across Leicester are running a special offer this weekend to encourage visitors to try out new sports. On Sunday, September 2, admission at seven of the city's sports and leisure centres will cost only £2 for adults and £1.50 for under-16s as part of a scheme to get more people to experiment with new sporting activities.

A local sports team whose members include four Olympic medal winners will be honoured at a civic reception by Leicester's Lord Mayor. Leicester Ladies' Hockey Club - four members of which brought home bronze medals for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games - will be guests of honour at the event, which takes place in the Town Hall's tea room, on Friday, August 31, at 5pm.
