Bike training on offer for families

MANOR House Neighbourhood Centre is offering free cycle training courses for families during the schools half-term holiday.

Free family Bikeability cycle training courses will be available from Tuesday, October 22 to Friday, October 25, and run from 10.30am until 12 noon.

It's Sports Awards season - Who have you nominated?

This year the Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) Local Sport Alliances (LSA) have aligned their Sports Awards to create a pathway into the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards. Eight local awards ceremonies will take place across Leicestershire & Rutland and certain categories will feed their winning entries into the Leicester Mercury Awards nominations process.

After her surprise selection for the Team GB triathlon squad for the Olympics, 20-year-old Lucy Hall more than justified her place on the team with a stunning performance in the water, as the British trio of Hall, Vicky Holland and Helen Jenkins attempted to tailor the race to suit the strengths of Jenkins to help her achieve a medal.

From today, Sport Makers have the chance to win one of five pairs of tickets donated by the Rugby Football Union to see England v Fiji in one of rugby's QBE internationals. All Sport Makers have to do is record 10 hours of Sport Makers activity between now and the 2nd November.

Sportsmatch funding still available for grassroots sport

Sportsmatch uses money from Sport England to encourage private sponsorship of grassroots community sport, and can award from between £1,000 to £100,000 to match funding from up to five sponsors.

The London 2012 Legacy Plans have now been made public. Published by sports minister, Hugh Robertson, the plans also include the £300m transformation of the Olympic Park into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park; an annual £125m investment in elite sport ion the fun run up to the 2016 Games; and support for the Join In programme to build on the spirit of volunteering.

The Club Leaders Learning Bus comes to Leicester

The double decker Club Leaders Learning Bus will be rolling into the Humberstone Gate West on Friday 21st September 2012. People who help to run sports clubs are welcome on board to talk through ways in which they can make the running of their club easier and more effective. We would also like to make people aware of the other free services available thanks to Sport England and Lottery funding as part of the Olympic Legacy Programme, Places People Play. The bus will be around from 10am until 5pm and it's all free
