People are being given the chance to nominate their favourite local sporting heroes and top sporting events of 2012 in a campaign celebrating the best of the city's talent.

Glasgow 2014 will officially launch their volunteer programme for the Commonwealth Games next week

Glasgow 2014 will officially launch their volunteer programme for the Commonwealth Games next week when they begin accepting expressions of interest. Around 15,000 people will be needed to help make the event a success and interest is expected to be high following the success of London 2012.

Dozens of ping pong tables which were set up in the city this summer have now taken up new homes in community venues, parks and sports centres across the city. A total of 58 tables were set up throughout Leicester for the Ping! Festival in June, which attracted over 60,000 people to try the sport.

A new season of winter bike rides in and around Leicester warms up this weekend. The free guided rides, organised by Leicester City Council and British Cycling, give people the chance to cycle a choice of routes aimed at different levels of fitness and ability, under the watchful eye of qualified British Cycling ride leaders.
