London to host 2017 IPC World Championships

After staging one of the best and most-talked about Paralympic Games in history this summer, London was announced as the host city of the 2017 IPC Athletics World Championships today. The Championships will be held in July 2017 at the Olympic Stadium, just a month before the same venue plays host to the IAAF World Athletics Championships.

Sport England today announced a £493 million four-year investment to keep the inspiration of London 2012 alive and help fulfil Lord Coe's pledge that the Games would get more people – young and old, women and men – playing sport, a feat that no other host nation has ever managed to achieve.
Olympians take part in Leicester Parkrun event

For the second time in almost two years, the Braunstone parkrun field at the weekend included Olympians LisaDobriskey and Ricky Soos. The husband and wife duo took first and second places at their last appearance at the weekly 5k race in February 2011 and, not surprisingly, the GB athletes won their respective categories once again.

Communities across the country can today start bidding for a share of £2 million of National Lottery investment to protect and improve their local sports playing fields. The latest round of Sport England's Protecting Playing Fields fund will help enhance local playing fields or create new sports pitches.

Record numbers of women and men in England are playing sport every week, according to Sport England's annual Active People Survey. Now in its sixth year, the report shows that 15.5 million people aged 16 and over are playing sport at least once a week, 1.57 million more than when London won the the Olympic and Paralympic bid (in 2005).
