International links

As part of the London 2012 International Inspiration programme, Ellesmere College has established a two year link school programme with the Nana Girls School in Sokoto, Nigeria. Delegates from Ellesmere College recently visited Nigeria where the focus was on developing young people through PE and school sport. This included training young sports leaders in the school.
Prior to the school going to Nigeria pupils attended a whole school assembly based on cross curricular themes such as geography, PE and sport, food, language, culture, art, and independent travel. Pupils then worked in their tutor groups to develop whole class displays on Nigeria along with developing their literacy skills through writing letters to pupils in Nigeria.

On their return another whole school assembly was held to celebrate the link and the winning tutor group for the class display was presented with the Nana Girls trophy. The school has been raising funding for sports relief and to support the Nana Girls School in Nigeria. This included links to the business and enterprise curriculum where pupils made and sold items (including the local market), along with making pairs of friendship bands. One band to go to Nigeria along with a message tag for an individual student and the other to be worn in school.
Ellesmere College will now play host to representatives from Nigerian school between the 22 and 29 June 2010. This will include time at Ellesmere College and in the local community looking at PE and school sport and a trip to watch
