The Leicester Marathon which takes place on Sunday 9th October includes the Full Marathon together with the Half Marathon and the Corporate Relay. This year’s event will also see the inclusion of a new children’s race, The Ted Toft Mile for Young people, children aged 10 -16.

The Poppy Run is a new national series of 5km fun runs, open to all, which aims to raise funds and awareness for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. You don't need to be super fit to take part; whether you run it, jog it, walk it or even crawl it, it is not important as long as you do it!

The second in a new series of free, guided winter bike rides takes place in Leicester this Sunday 27 November. The Ride Leicester Cycling Sunday's scheme gives cyclists the chance to complete a choice of rides aimed at different abilities and led by qualified British Cycling ride leaders. This weekend's rides share a Tour de Leicester theme and will follow quiet or traffic calmed routes around Leicester's inner city neighbourhoods.

With less than 200 days to go to the start of the London 2012 Games, there is an opportunity to watch one of the most exciting Olympic sports at Loughborough University on 22 March. The Great Britain women's handball team will be visiting the University to play Poland in a qualifier for the 2012 European Championships.

Sport Relief 2012 is on its way from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th March! With over a million people expected to join in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile, there's no better way to take part in the UK's biggest year of sport and help to change lives too.

Whether you do 1, 3 or 6 miles - as a family team, with your mates or against the clock – you'll have a fantastic time when you go the distance.

The Loughborough Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 25^th March after a 20 year absence. The race is roughly 13.1 miles starting and finishing in the Market Place in the centre of the town. The run explores the historic town of Loughborough, its iconic University campus and then heads onto the fabulous Garendon Estate grounds, taking in some of the best countryside in the area, before heading back to the finish line.

People are being encouraged to get their running shoes on and take part in a 10km run around the city of Leicester. Entries are coming in fast for the 'Leicester's Big 10K' on Sunday 1st April but there are still places left for those keen to take part.

SPORT, fitness and healthy activities will be taking centre stage at an event in Beaumont Leys this weekend.

Families will get the chance to try out a range of sports and get advice on improving their health at the event, which takes place at Leicester Leys Leisure Centre will host a family health event on Sunday, April 1, from 10am to 2pm.

Games Time is a spectacular outdoor stage show combining music, dance, video, fireworks and 160 members of the local community.

With a backdrop of giant video projections and music, four teams dressed in amazingly coloured costumes take part in an exciting battle.

YOUNGSTERS living in Leicester will be able to swim for free during the school holidays again this year following the popularity of the scheme in 2011.

All seven of the city council's swimming pools will offer free swims during the schools' Easter break, the summer holidays and October half term week.

To celebrate the Masters championship. Leicester City Council and partners will be hosting a day of Golf on Saturday 7th April, 10.30am-4pm.

Come along join the fun and try your hand at Golf. This free event is open to all abilities.

Let's Dance International Festival runs from the 12 - 27^th of May and will see 162 artists create 26 events in 10 venues across Leicester. The programme showcases spectacular and diverse high quality dance and includes master classes by top choreographers for emerging dancers and dance enthusiasts. The festival includes three major performances; all regional premières and part of the UK Cultural Olympiad. The programme offers an opportunity to see some of the best work produced nationally and internationally with companies from Jamaica, India and the UK.

Leicester will play host to 45 Ping, table tennis tables. This month long event will see table tennis tables popping up around the city to encourage informal play. Sites include; shopping centres, parks, train stations and many more.
