The Sports Leadership Conference for Young People is a professional development opportunity for 16-19 year olds within Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. Young people - our future workforce for sport - will be taken on a personal journey throughout the day.

The second in a new series of free, guided winter bike rides takes place in Leicester this Sunday 27 November. The Ride Leicester Cycling Sunday's scheme gives cyclists the chance to complete a choice of rides aimed at different abilities and led by qualified British Cycling ride leaders. This weekend's rides share a Tour de Leicester theme and will follow quiet or traffic calmed routes around Leicester's inner city neighbourhoods.

As part of Move More 4 Less Week, Active Together and Active Rutland & 3x 30 Pledge are offering physical activity sessions that either cost £1 or are FREE!

Tuesday 17th January will see the opening event of the Citizens Eye cmc2012 project. Between 12-2pm the Screen Lounge of the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre will play host to partners and volunteer community reporters as they mark the start of an exciting 12 months of activities, events and training.

CYCLING Sunday returns to the city this weekend for the fourth in the series of free, professionally-guided winter bike rides around Leicester.

Leicester City Council's community swimming pools are opening their doors for free to all members of the community across both Leicester and Leicestershire on Saturday 4th February. Its Olympic year and there can be no better way to keep fit and active than enjoying a 'free' swim at a local city leisure centre.

Dress the World is a collaborative programme of three East Midlands' exhibitions as part of the Stories of the World project for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. The three exhibitions celebrate the global exchanges that have shaped and continue to shape fashion in the East Midlands.

Suits and Saris (New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, Leicester) is a major exhibition that visually explores both global and Leicester stories, highlighting the fusions of British and South Asian fashion traditions. Suits and Saris looks at previously unexplored aspects of British Asian fashion worlds, such as the role of East African Asians in Leicester.

People are being encouraged to get their running shoes on and take part in a 10km run around the city of Leicester. Entries are coming in fast for the 'Leicester's Big 10K' on Sunday 1st April but there are still places left for those keen to take part.

SPORT, fitness and healthy activities will be taking centre stage at an event in Beaumont Leys this weekend.

Families will get the chance to try out a range of sports and get advice on improving their health at the event, which takes place at Leicester Leys Leisure Centre will host a family health event on Sunday, April 1, from 10am to 2pm.

Games Time is a spectacular outdoor stage show combining music, dance, video, fireworks and 160 members of the local community.

With a backdrop of giant video projections and music, four teams dressed in amazingly coloured costumes take part in an exciting battle.

Free holiday swims return for Olympic year

YOUNGSTERS living in Leicester will be able to swim for free during the school holidays again this year following the popularity of the scheme in 2011.

All seven of the city council's swimming pools will offer free swims during the schools' Easter break, the summer holidays and October half term week.

To celebrate the Masters championship. Leicester City Council and partners will be hosting a day of Golf on Saturday 7th April, 10.30am-4pm.

Come along join the fun and try your hand at Golf. This free event is open to all abilities.

Screening of the US Masters golf tournament will also be shown across the weekend.

BT's Big Voice Competition gives students across the UK the chance to produce a film around the themes of diversity and inclusion, and the shortlisted films will be shown at the Live Site on 12 May 2012.

Let's Dance International Festival runs from the 12 - 27^th of May and will see 162 artists create 26 events in 10 venues across Leicester. The programme showcases spectacular and diverse high quality dance and includes master classes by top choreographers for emerging dancers and dance enthusiasts. The festival includes three major performances; all regional premières and part of the UK Cultural Olympiad. The programme offers an opportunity to see some of the best work produced nationally and internationally with companies from Jamaica, India and the UK.

As part of the Let's Dance International Festival, Signatures is a showcase of solos and duets by emerging and established artists including: Subhash Viman: Shiva; Chirague Amarchande: HipOlitic; Dwayne Simms: Plan B; Aakash Odedra: Kathak solo; The Maxwell Dance Project: The B-sides; and De Montfort University students.

Leicester City Centre will be the focus of Regional celebrations to mark UK Inspire Day on Wednesday 16^th May 2012.

Humberstone Gate, Live Site will come alive with a variety of activities showcasing elements of the Inspire Mark programme both locally and from across the region.

Join a creative and healthy movement workshop. The workshop will be fun and will include both active and relaxing activities. The workshop is part of Routes, a Dance4 project in partnership with The Leicester Sport Partnership Trust.

The Big Dance School Pledge is a mass participation dance event for schools across the UK and around the world. It will take place at 1pm on 18 May 2012 – the day that the Olympic torch arrives in the UK. Big Dance is about showing lots of different types of Dance in unusual places and this year will be a world record attempt.

Visit Leicester's Orton Square to see Shauna Richardson's 'Lionheart Project'. The three giant lions will tour the East Midlands before arriving at the Natural History Museum in London in time for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Leicester will play host to 45 Ping, table tennis tables. This month long event will see table tennis tables popping up around the city to encourage informal play. Sites include; shopping centres, parks, train stations and many more.

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) have revealed the route of the Olympic Torch Relay. The torch will pass through Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland on Monday 2^nd and Tuesday 3rd July on days 45 and 46 of the 70 day journey.
