Leicester-Shire & Rutland Community Games

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport is delighted to be supporting the Community Games!
The team at Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport believe that sport and physical activity has the ability to reach out to all of our communities and create a sense of belonging and pride in where we live. It has a unique power to motivate and inspire and through working with our many partners our challenge is to create the opportunity for everyone to achieve a little bit more, aim a little bit higher and go a little bit further.
The Community Games provide a great opportunity for communities to come together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
Community Games are fun, inclusive, and an opportunity for celebration for each local community. Community Games event could be in a street, an estate, a local business, regular users of a park, or other public space – an event that is organised by the community, for the community.
Community Games includes both sporting and cultural events, with some kind of ceremony, ideally an opening and/or closing ceremony.
Whether it is a come and try it session, contest or an opportunity to try something new, whatever the focus of your Community Games, you should provide an opportunity for everyone in your community to participate. A great way to showcase some of the cultural activity that goes on in your community or your event is to hold a ceremony to open or close your event.
Above all, the Community Games programme aims to capture the core values of the Olympic and Paralympic movements, and these should be reflected in your event.
