On the 22nd June 2010 the 2012 Legacy Team visited Rushey Mead School in Leicester to take part in an ‘Olympics Enterprise Day’ which was developed using the ‘Have you got what it takes? resources, which are available for free on the London 2012 Get Set website.
The ‘Have you got what it takes?’ initiative invites students to work in teams and to take on the role of a company who are bidding to become an approved host of a Pre Games Training Camp for the 2012 Olympics. The Olympics Enterprise Day’ was split into two stages. Firstly the students were required to demonstrate that they are ‘pitch ready’ and can therefore qualify as an approved host. This involved each team setting up a company, complete with a logo, and then checking to ensure that their chosen facility met the criteria needed to become a pre games training camp. The second stage required the students to present their business case to a national sports governing body (in this case a panel made up of local business people), in an attempt to secure a pre-Games Training Camp.
Throughout the process students were required to demonstrate that their ‘company’ – and all the individuals within it – are committed to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.
It was a really enjoyable day for all and our thanks go to the staff and students at Rushey Mead School. Look out for the case study video that will be published soon.
