We believe the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London will inspire people, communities, businesses and other organisations in Leicester and Leicestershire to be the best they can be.
The strategies for Leicester & Leicestershire provide the vision and direction to maximise the benefits for the whole of the sub-region leading up to, during and beyond the 2012 Games.
Our strategies outline a robust and practical delivery structure that will ensure there is a co-ordinated approach across the City of Leicester and County of Leicestershire and is closely aligned with the 2012 regional structures.
Leicestershire Steering Group for the 2012 Games
The delivery of the strategies will be co-ordinated by the Leicestershire Steering Group for the 2012 Games that includes representatives from:
- east midlands development agency
- Higher Education
- Leicester City Council
- Leicester College
- Leicester Shire Promotions
- Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport
- Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce
- Leicestershire Constabulary
- Leicestershire County and Rutland & Leicester City Primary Care Trusts
- Leicestershire County Council
- Leicestershire District Councils
- Loughborough University
- Prospect Leicestershire
- Voluntary Action LeicesterShire
The Strategy is divided into seven core themes. Each theme is led by a named organisation and the actions coordinated through a delivery group. Where appropriate, the role of the delivery group is undertaken by an existing group or partnership currently working within that theme area. In order to ensure there is effective communication between the themes and across Leicestershire, a communications sub-group has also been established.
The 2012 Legacy Team
A small Legacy Team acts as secretariat to the Steering Group, supporting the thematic groups and individual partners. The Team sets the work programme on behalf of the Steering Group, and promotes partnership working and common priorities across the seven themes.
